What’s your simple country pleasure?

For the next issue of our magazine, we’re going to dedicate a couple of pages to Simple Country Pleasures. I thought it might be fun to list our COLLECTIVE ideas on that here—for a two-page collage in MaryJanesFarm magazine with each of our names attached.

What is (or are) your simple country pleasures?????

At the top of my list is the sound that pine needles make in the wind. It’s a far-away sound that washes over me like surf. When I take a moment to stop and listen, I feel like I’m floating, bobbing above the surface of all my busyness.

Anyone love going barefoot in their garden?

How about lovin’ the country wave?

Night sounds that lull you to sleep?

Today’s Recipe: Honey Graham Crackers

Today’s double-the-fun recipe is part 2-of-2 on how to make your very own homemade s’mores—and is a continuation of a sneak-peek for homemade marshmallows from my mother’s book, Glamping with MaryJane.

For those of you who weren’t with us yesterday, we learned how to make fluffy Homemade Marshmallows as part of National S’more Day. (Last month, mom showed you how to smoke your own fresh-caught salmon for her oh-so-heavenly Sweet & Smoky Salmon Zucchini Rolls.)

Today, we gather up molasses and coconut to make homemade graham crackers. Aren’t your friends going to be i-m-p-r-e-s-s-e-d when they get a taste of the real thing? (P.S. Stay with me here, there’s some extra special sweetness at the end of the recipe.)

Celebrating Girlfriends

Do I really need to say this again? You’re probably going to fall asleep when I say for the hundredth time, I LOVE holidays. Big or small, I love any excuse to celebrate. Our trusty ol’ MaryJanesFarm Calendar has quite a few lesser-known holidays I’m having fun with this month.

In honor of Friendship Day that happened on August 5 and Girlfriends’ Day last week on August 1, and Best Friends’ Day coming up on August 15, I’m taking one of my …

WINNER!!! Giveaway: Becky Higgins Scrapbooking Set

In our June 2012 newsletter, MaryJane’s Cluck, I highlighted Becky Higgins and her company, “Project Life.” I met Becky in Minnesota, heard her speak to hundreds of scrapbookers, and well, fell in love with everything Becky.

Project Life is scrapbooking made do-able! All you need are photos and an assortment of colored pens, which is fabulous because, let’s be honest, it’s a fast-paced world we live in.

I am sure you’re wondering, ‘where’s mine, where’s mine!?’ Well, it’s your lucky day SUE’s IN TEXAS!!!! Sue’s name was pulled from my lottery hat.

Here’s what Sue in Texas won:

Meeting Beach Farmgirl

Look who I had tea with this week in Cape Cod. Deb Bosworth!!!!! Our BEACH Farmgirl.
I was smitten before. Now I’m over the moon in love. It was wondrous to finally meet her in person.

seeing double

I knew that just as soon as our baby chicks were delivered to the farm this year, I would take my two little girls to the chicken coop and snap some photos of another generation of buttery-cute farmgirls just like the one of their Nanny Jane (as a surprise gift) …

What defines you?

At the doctor’s office recently, I heard myself say, “Well, I can’t let this define me.” (Lingering injuries from an accidental electrocution continue to test my patience.)

Driving to the farm the next day in the early hours of daylight to cook breakfast for our Bed & Breakfast guests, I was thinking about that statement. If I don’t want it to define me, what do I want to define me? …

Vote for MaryJane!

This year, More magazine featured Mom in a year-long campaign detailing companies started by 10 women who were intent on creating jobs for other women. (YES, I can hear you say, you go girl!)

Her Project F.A.R.M. (First-class American Rural Made) helps rural communities and …

Bucket Brigade

If you stop to let me and my girls cross the street, you might notice my two girls waving madly at you. They’ve taken to waving and smiling at just about everyone. Why do they wave at the man on the street corner (dressed up like a chicken) who’s trying to convince you to come into his restaurant for chicken wings? And why is my 5-year-old suddenly making her bed without being asked?
