Old Mill Days

In an earlier post, I shared some pics from our trip to Lindsborg, Kansas. While there, we also toured a flour mill built in 1898 that, for a couple of days each year, is cleaned up and turned on! Amazing.

Below is an advertisement from The Lindsborg News-Record of the Old Mill announcing their annual event, Millfest.

They even dressed the part and gave us a fabulous tour of their mill.

It was especially exciting touring this mill because for the most part, it’s a carbon copy (well, inside at least) of my J.C. Barron Flour Mill, located in Oakesdale, Washington.

My Goal

I officially signed up for a half marathon. Let me explain. I am not a runner. I never have been.

During physical therapy last year, I realized I needed a goal. After an accident that rattled my existence, I decided if I was going to have to start over, I didn’t just want to get back to where I was, I wanted to go beyond. So 13.1 miles it is. I may not run it all, and hopefully I am able to at least walk it, but when I cross that finish line and think of where I’ve been and where I am … well, I can only imagine. And that’s what I’m doing while I push myself just a little bit harder each day.

It’s okay—it’s considered normal around here. I raised my girl Ginger indoors because sometimes …

a couple of daily visits to the henhouse just isn’t enough.

Shake Your Tail Feathers

Chicken Feather Earrings!!!! They’re the latest fashion statement. And now I have a pair, compliments of Sandi O’Connor, Travelin’ Sister #3956, made by her daughter, Emily Kate, of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Check out her Etsy shop, homegrowntrades. My pair came with a list of the “lovingly collected, never plucked” feathers from her flock of 26 chickens (my gift perfectly complete with the hens’ names who helped make the earrings—Olive, Grettle, Chloe, and Lady).
