In the Aug/Sept issue of MaryJanesFarm, “The Experiment” (on newsstands July 14), we led you here to my daily journal for a chance to win a free sampling of “the perfect clothespin,” featured in our “Home Safe Home” section.
You probably know that we love clothespins here at MaryJanesFarm. You might have seen the article, “The Humble Clothespin,” in our “Celebrating 15 Years” Feb/Mar 2015 issue. And recently, we discovered another small company that makes old-fashioned wooden clothespins by hand. Albert Crooks and his 15-year-old son, Al, craft beautiful, sturdy clothespins from ash (the perfect hardwood for clothespins) and heavy-duty, stainless-steel springs manufactured in the U.S. “No more using four or five cheap clothespins to hang a wet towel to line dry. Our clothespins are tumble sanded and are finished with tung oil, which will not leach out and stain your laundry.” For beautiful clothespins that will last a lifetime, visit AllAmericanClothespins.com.
For a chance to win a sampling of “the perfect clothespin,” tell me how hanging laundry on the line makes you feel in the comments below. We’ll toss your name in a hat and draw one lucky winner in mid-September, when the Aug/Sept issue expires on newsstands. Stay tuned for more magazine-related giveaways!

I have a dryer, but on a daily basis I choose to fill my laundry basket with the weight of the wet clothes and walk to my clothes line. It’s a tie to my Grandmother & Mother, who reside in my memories & heart, the added gift is the smell & warmth of the sunshine & the roughness of the towels. Nothing like a good clothespin to prevent fly-a-way clothes on the windy fast drying days!
I love hanging out my wash-the clean clothes on the line are beauty to me. Best of all the fresh scent of the dry clothes-the bed sheets smell wonderful when I go to bed!
Makes me feel nostalgic! I loved it when my mom hung sheets on the line when I was young. Such a lovely fresh smell. I need to do that!
I always wanted a clothes line to hang out my sheets blankets.there is nothing better than fresh line dried bedding.I feel relaxed when I crawl into them at night.thank you ,
Mary.
Hanging laundry on the line feels like a return to an earlier, less complicated time. It’s a time for quiet meditation, and feeling the breeze on your face.
Hanging laundry on a line on a nice breezy day makes me feel proud that i can still do this! i used to help my mother do this as a kid and doing it now as an adult with my kids makes me feel proud because im giving my daughters a chance to learn the simple life. i see no body hanging clothes on a line anymore…crazy thought!
It’s a little hard to explain how I feel when I’m hanging clothes on the line. I will sometimes look for anything to throw in the washer if we have a sunny windy day. Hanging clothes just somehow makes me feel cozy, I love the fresh smell and how the clothes flaps on the lines. I will also hang the clothes in a color pattern depending what was in each load. When we looked for a new house a few years ago and I saw the lines in the back yard it cemented the sale!

Some of my favorite memories growing up are of putting fresh washing on the line.
I loved the feel of the clothes pins as I fastened them over the clothes being hung.
I still have a bag that was my aunts that she used to keep her clothes pins in. There is a certain kind of peace watching clothes blow in a summer breeze on the line.
Spring is my favorite time of the year to hang my blankets and sheets out. If only I could keep that smell all year long…
Hanging clothes on clothespins is really the only way to go. The fresh outdoor smell that it leaves on your clothes is indescribable. The feeling I get when I go to grab my clothes is nothing but excitement as I wait to get the warm feeling of satisfaction as I smell the smell of the outdoors. Oh how I love clothespins.
