We had a bumper crop of Granny Smith apples this year, more than we can eat over the winter. Our solution? Dried apple pie rings. We dipped them in a a mixture of sugar, cinnamon, and powdered milk. Huge hit with everyone!
DRIED APPLE PIE RINGS
PREP TIME: 1 HOUR
DEHYDRATING TIME: 48 HOURS
MAKES: ABOUT 1 ¼ LBS
2 cups sugar
½ cup powdered milk
2 T cinnamon
¼ t nutmeg
6 lbs Granny Smith apples
1. In a medium bowl, mix together sugar, powdered milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
2. Working in small batches of 2-3 apples at a time, peel and core apples, then slice into ¼” thick rings.
3. Dip apple rings in the sugar mixture and place on dehydrator trays lined with Teflon sheeting or any other dehydrator-friendly non-stick sheeting.
4. Dehydrate at 100°F for about 48 hours, until apples are dry but still pliable.
