Hundreds of stray dogs are roaming the countryside in Costa Rica.
And, believe it or not, this is actually a happy headline.
You see, these strays are at home in a spacious sanctuary called Territorio de Zaguates (Land of the Strays). This privately funded sanctuary, run by volunteers, turns no stray away.
Multitudes of mutts at Territorio de Zaguates roam grassy fields, lounge on cozy beds and mattresses,
nibble from troughs of kibble,
and generally play their days away while they await adoption.
For some, that day never comes, but they still have a comfortable, loving place to retire.
In addition to providing a haven for homeless dogs and actively seeking potential pooch parents for their residents, the clever Territorio staff created a campaign to make mutts more appealing to the masses. Take a look:

What a wonderful santuary for dogs. We need more of these. Thank you for the help you give these forgotten dogs.
what a brilliant idea to place these dogs! brought tears to my eyes. This idea needs to be sent around the world to help all the unwanted stray dogs !
I love this! I wish we had one here for the many dogs who need a place to go. This is definitely a place I would go and volunteer, along with many other people I know. Dogs have a special place in my heart and I’ll be sure to share this information.
This makes me so happy to read. All those lovely pets have a home and maybe some even get adopted. It just underscores the need to spay your pet and take pet ownership seriously and make them a true family member all their days!
Incredible!
