Cinco de Mayo

If anyone ever asks you, “When is Cinco de Mayo?” don’t fall for it—just remember when you learned to count to ten in Spanish: uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco …

Cinco de Mayo is of course Spanish for the 5th of May.

spirits lifted by a crane

A recent visit to the blog of my biologist buddy Jennifer Bové piqued my interest in whooping cranes.

Throughout the past year, these big, beautiful endangered birds have created quite a buzz among environmentalists, landowners, and—believe it or not—the Federal Aviation Adminstration (FAA).

What a wonderful post, and wonderful people at Operation Migration. Wishing them much luck and a wonderful migration. So happy the FAA saw the light and issued that exemption!

Midnight in Paris

For some of my Geography journal entries, my friend, Alyson Oüten, takes you around the globe, from her backyard in Boise, Idaho, to the streets of Europe and beyond. Today, she is off to Paris to enjoy the exquisite cuisine, famous architecture, works of art, and chic fashion scene, ending with a French surprise. So without further adieu, take it from here, Aly. It’s all yours!!!!!

  1. Oh, this looks awesome!!!! I’ve only been through Paris on the metro on my way to Bretagne. Someday I want to travel there to have a proper visit of the city 🙂 🙂 Thanks for the crepe recipe. I was curious about the dish with the beef, carrots and mushrooms. I’m following the GAPS diet for health reasons…and that looks really tasty and something I could definitely eat. Do you remember what that dish was called?

Oh, my naturpathic physician is from Paris, so I’m going to forward this link to her. She’ll really love seeing these photos of her hometown 🙂 🙂

Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather 🙂

  2. Erika says:

Ah Paris! My mom and I were there in October 2009. Every time I see pictures of Paris or hear of other peoples visits, my heart leaps. Such a exciting place, so beautiful. And yes, the crepes, SO wonderful!
