  1. Winnie Nielsen says:

With hot coffee in hand, I can focus on this photo and be wicked away to a cold and fresh new day carpeted with yesterday’s last few remnants of warmth from the ground. Amazing!

  1. Winnie Nielsen says:

The one thing I remember about snow was when you walked in the woods and it was so quiet except for the crunching of your boots. It is a beautiful experience to feel the cold air and blue sky within a sleeping landscape.

  2. Bonnie ellis says:

Looks like a fun place to walk or ski. Something like a secret garden

  1. Winnie Nielsen says:

This is interesting. Is it Rosehips under that snow cap?

  2. Janice Slater says:

Totally winter. Beatiful picture. We are hoping to see snow again someday soon. The Pacific Northwest has not been white for about 4 years.

The colors of changing leaves stand out beautifully against the dark greens of the Idaho forest and the grasses of the Palouse. Such a gorgeous grouping of color for the eye this morning on our science walk together!

Happy Halloween,MaryJane! Let the Pumpkin Moonshines shine tonight.

  2. Aww ! one of my favorite Victorian Halloween Images, have several forms of this one. I go all out for Halloween. And all Saints Day and Día de Muertos, where I celebrate the lives of those dearly departed ( in my case the only nearby graves are of my 3 late cats) It is such a sweet holiday and such a wonderful, joyous tradition. Look it up on wikipedia:

  1. Winnie Nielsen says:

There is something special to me about the face of an owl. For some reason, they can appear to peer into you with inquisitive eyes. Although it seems to also happen with crows, I never get that experience from song birds.

  2. Bonnie ellis says:

Beautiful owl and quite a coincidence that you posted that picture today. Just went to a slide talk by a fantastic naturalist this afternoon who talked about owls. His name is Stan Teikela. He just came out with a book about them. He is a photographer, teacher, radio talk show host and author of many books about birds and animals.

  3. I think it it owl’s faces that endear them to us. I once was a “foster mother ” to an injured baby screech owl. She as so adorable and fit in the palm of your hand but……… screech owls scream in high decibels of loudness. Trust me you will do ANYTHING to keep them happy ! PRONTO! She was so loud it literally hurt your ears.
