Autumnal Equinox

The Autumnal Equinox already?? It barely feels like it around here (except for shorter days). So with temperatures still in the 80s, we’re heading to the beach. Well, beach for Idaho … the Salmon River is home to some of the most gorgeous white sandy beaches I’ve ever seen.

I’m packing the s’mores, the girls, sleeping bags, and our …

Sounds like a great weekend! Given your lattitude, no doubt autumn is not far behind either.

  2. Terry Steinmetz says:

Oh, how great! We were just at the Grand Canyon & enjoyed the camping, even with the frost on the tent one morning. I love fall & all that it entails, but I’ll have great memories of camping with my grandgirl, Jade. When I get home from this trip, there will be all the work of cleaning out the garden & the rest of the fall work. (Hard to think of it when we are in Oklahoma where it is supposed to be in the 90’s today!) So I’m enjoying this last leg of our trip. And when I get home, the leaves on the trees should be turning colors. The smell from the woods will be fall-ish & I’ll be in love with fall all over again. Have a great trip ll you girls!

creepy crawly

Oooo, little spider. You creep me out. But dang, aren’t you beautiful?

  1. Terry Steinmetz says:

Great pictures! And I bet it was LOTS of fun showing off the spider. The quote from Charlotte’s Web was perfect!

  2. Winnie Nielsen says:

Wow, what a beautiful spider. I can certainly understand getting distracted by it for awhile. Charlotte’s Web is the sweetest book ever. I always cry when I read it! So truthful and honest.

  3. drMolly says:

Wonderful pictures. Wonderful creatures! I actually love spiders – hey they eat flies don’t they? – and I love Charlotte’s Web – such a wonderful story. I love that quote!

  4. Shery says:

I can’t say that I like spiders, but I *want* to like them…but the creepy factor gets hold of me. I do like having them around to eat other bothersome bugs. On the subject of bug eaters … I LOVELOVELOVE the photo you posted recently of that beautiful toad. TOADS I LOVE…and I get so tickled when I see one in my garden.

  5. Heather says:

What a pretty girl. We work with catface spiders, but don’t usually hold them, they tend to be bitey. I’m impressed you’re just playing with her. Maybe we need to reconsider. We generally handle Nephila clavipes, the golden orb weaver. Despite their size, they are really timid ladies, and great with kids.

  6. Terciero says:

Most people are totally disgusted by anything creepy and crawly (I hear ya!).  However there are a rare breed of weirdos (I say that lovingly, I promise!) who enjoy all things scary, slimy and squiggly.  And sour!  I could never get behind that kinda stuff.  Like those 90 s commercials advertising create-your-own-edible-slime for boys?  GROOOOOOSSSS.  Pass me my Barbie bubblegum maker, please thanks.

Just watched Ken Burns short film on the ‘Shakers’ & discovered the Shakers invented the clothespin along with a number of other essential tools we use often. And the film credits a female shaker for inventing the cicular saw:-) Go-go Farmgirls e.g., crafters, drafters, engineers, inventors & more.

a day in the life of a B&B guest

Here I am racing to town to check in on our store, but first I stop to meet this morning’s B&B guests seated at our outside tables.

  2. Winnie Nielsen says:

Looks like such a wonderful time sharing around the picnic table! What fun for you and for them! I hope to get there myself sooner rather than later myself!

  3. Beth says:

Staying at your B&B is on my Bucket List- I have followed you, Mary Jane since before your first periodical. I ascribe to all you ascribe to- right down to my Danskos 🙂 Now, I enjoy seeing your daughter follow in your footsteps- you have taught many the clean and nutritious way to eat and how to simplify one’s life. One day, we will meet and I will be the Hoosier gal that has waited to thank you after these many years~ Just please send us your rain, as our crop yield this year will be lacking due to the severe drought we have had. You are an inspiring woman that has been blessed with much talent- Blessings from Indiana- Beth M

    • MaryJane says:

This just made my year!!!!! How I wish I could send rain. I’m so sorry to see the havoc the drought is causing. Blessings back!
