Surprise Pregnancy
Weren’t we surprised. On September 1, I brought home Sweetheart, a gorgeous Jersey queen from Kansas. She traveled here with her fellow, a bull named Samson, that I had also purchased. Their previous owner had only recently allowed them to be together. Fine with me.
During the month of October, I left them together, hoping for a pregnancy. After 30 days, on Oct. 1, I did a blood draw. Yup, she’d gotten pregnant, with Samson … or so I thought. Turns out, she was already pregnant when she arrived. Very pregnant. According to my calculations, she’d be having her first baby the end of May. However, on Tuesday, Charlie, pictured here, was born. Who was the lucky guy that beat Samson to the …
Sully. A guy named Sully. Oh well.
Welcome Charlie!!!! (Properly Charles.) Just poor timing, with winter already here and temperatures hovering around 15 F the first night you were born. Just glad we found you in time to get you inside.
Mother and son doing well. Just unexpected.

Oh my, is he a cutie pie!! Surprise babies are such fun no matter whether they have two legs or four! I guess you could cut up a sweatshirt and give him a little extra warmth if needed. My daughter does that with her goats if they need a little something when we get a few really cold nights here in Florida.

SOOOOOOOOOOO Stinkin Cute!!!

Oh my goodness, what a sweet photo of mama and her baby, someone sure knows how to take pictures. Hopefully mama will keep Charlie warm through the long winter.
I of course will cow sit anytime!
Just a fabulous photo.
Thanks so much for sharing. -
What a nice blessing! He is so cute 🙂 I’m glad you found Charlie in time to keep him warm.

oh my, not a thanksgiving turkey, a thanksgiving calf !! You must be so grateful that Sweetheart was such a good mommie that she could deliver with no help at all . And that you discovered her in time to keep her warm and bring sweet little Charlie indoors. What an adorable calf. Thanks for sharing this miracle of birth and that Mother Nature knows best. Will they get to be in your new Milk Cow book? .

These ornamental Kales remind me of beautiful heathered yarns in the yarn shops! Wouldn’t these colors make the most luxurious knitted shawl??

It is hard to tell if that old barn is still in use or not. I wonder what it was like in it’s day?

What a perfect pin cushion for The Queen Bee!!
Oooh I just love pincushions. I collect them but mostly those silly tomato ones as I raise tomatoes for my business. This is a precious one and while we are on the subject of bees today, especially appropriate.
