A couple of times when I’ve been knee-deep in a cookbook project, I’ve joked that maybe it would just be easier if we were all breatharians, capable of surviving on air alone. Well, I’ve found just that … in a plant. A plant that doesn’t need soil to grow, just air, and a quick dip in water every two weeks. Meet T. stricta ‘Hardleaf’ and T. aeranthos—only two of many varieties available, brought to market by three guys in Torrance, California.

Winnie Nielsen says: Florida has lots of various air plants that live here all year round. Where I live, they are mostly found in Oak trees and do not have those beautiful colors like the ones you show here. I wish we had some of those around. I had to laugh when you said you wished sometimes we humans could just exist on air!! My mom used to say the same sort of thing when she was embroiled in a project and realized it was time to stop and fix dinner!!

Where can you get one? Maybe something I can not kill..I don’t seem to have a green thumb.

Since I have neither glamper nor tent, here are my solutions. 1. Stay at MJF Wall Tent B&B for a weekend and wear my cowboy boots, aprons and my cotton knitted hats that I have had fun creating. OR, 2. Stay with my very special friend in her Wall Tent in north Idaho and wear said clothing AND visit the MJF store at Coeur d’Alene! Do you think people would laugh at me as I stand in line to board the plane Spokane bound with my apron on over a denim skirt and my knitted cloche hat? Hahahaha!!!

I’m the only “girl” on our camping trips–me with my husband and three sons and boy dog. I’m surrounded by people who want to stay grungy all weekend, and we camp in a tent.
My dream camper would be vintage, with lots of soft cushions and pillows, curtains, and a tablecloth…Twinkle lights and candles…fully stocked picnic basket…a vase full of flowers…cold fresh lemonade…
Laurie Dimino says: I am currently a tent glamper, and LOVE IT! Each year I have a “permanent” tent that I set up in my backyard from May-October. It is my girly girl retreat- all glamped up with pretty vintage linens, and afghans etc. I also have a smaller tent that I take away on my glamping adventures- most recently I joined CJ and Robin glampin in Arizona. I can personally attest to the “awesome-ness” of CJ’s glamping aprons!
I sure would love to add one of these beauties to my apron collection!
As much as I would like to someday own a little vintage trailer, I currently dont have anything to tow it with, so I am perfectly content with my glammed up tent, which I can take ANYWHERE I go.
I would also love to have a true wall tent in my backyard one day, just like you have at our B&B.

So my dream glamping would be a Canned Ham tin house, done up in a truly eclectic style…all the things I love (well soe stay home)! I would use your glamping Collection as the base making a quilt out of it from Moda (free download) gotta love that! the strongest colors inside my little can of happiness would be Envy Green, Dk Chocolate, and of course because I LOVE barns the older the better Old Barn Red. The dining seats would be done up in denim, red ginham cutains with old lace behind to let the sun shine in with being private. I’d paint my appliances in Envy Green. On the walls would be framed prints of cowgirls and horses and roses. I would hang a hippie style beaded curtain in the doorway, the couch in the back would be covered in a chenile bedspread and cozied up with my quilt and BUNCHES of fun pillows and even a stuffed animal. Yup I love Glamping!

We are looking for a used motorhome to purchase this summer, we will be retiring in December and plan on living in the motorhome, travelling all the states. I am hoping to glamp it up with some of the new glamping fabrics. Once we get the motorhome, we will know what fabrics and colors we want in it. CJ makes the best aprons on the market. I truely would love to own one to go with the motorhome.

Heather Sandoval says: Wow, do you ever have my creative juices flowing. I have 2 ideas for my dream “glamper”. They would both be the small canned ham styles. The first would be done in a beach theme with turquoise and sherbet colors and a sea shell curtain covering the doorway. Perhaps a sisal mat to lay down on the floor. Lots of sea shells and vintage bathing beauties.
The second would be totally woodsy. I would keep the walls the natural wood color and add lots of plaid in colors of reds blues and greens. I would have natural fibers for the curtains, perhaps even burlap with plaid trim around it. Blue enamelware items, and pictures and doo-dads of bears, raccoons, and the like. Very woodsy yet comfy. Big fluffy mattress with flannel sheets and poofy quilts.

Ok ladies…since reading Mary Jane’s Glamping book in December I have been sooooo excited about this whole sisterhood glampitous!! California born and raised in the Sierras, Im abit by the bug surfing for a vintage trailor to redue and making lanterns out of mason jars.
I was a glamper before I knew I was spending summers working in Yosemite organizing happy hour and committed to having my table cloth and camp dishes match. A leather/lace….guns/roses kinda girl through and through!

“As seen on TV” is a little joke of ours. The next time you need to emphasize how sure you are of something, just say, “As seen on TV.” Ace also knows how much I love hoses. Hint: Garden hoses test my patience like nothing else.

Oh my, you touched a nerve with this post. We only have ONE outside hose hook-up for use around the barnyard, my garden AND a flowerbed in front of our home. Consequently, I drag around what seems like a MILE of hose. To say that hose kinks unravel my otherwise calm demeanor is a prfound understatement. I’ve bought a handful of hoses that “WILL NOT kink”. Uh-huh. The last one highlighted that feature on the wrapper and it is THEE worst thus far to kink. Sigh. When you have several yards of hose with a kink in the middle, you can’t just flip it and make the kink disappear. Sooooooo, I walk all the way back and manually undo it…grumbling all the way. It kinks when you drag it, it kinks when you wind it up, it kinks just to get a reaction out of me!

It has been attributed to Mr. Albert Einstein, but as snopes points out, there is no historical data for Mr. Einsein saying it himself, though would be demonstrably a crisis if bees were to perish. I can’t wait to get into the garden, but I suppose I’ll need to be patient until all this snow melts away!

I have a glorious seed germinating shelving unit that Doc made for me years ago. I haven’t germinated my own seeds in a few years. The most predominant reason is that I tend to over plant the darn trays and then I have plants coming out my ears! Seriously, hundreds of tomato plants…2 years ago, I brought the unit out of the barn, cleaned it off and for the entire time one is supposed to sprout seeds, that unit sat in my dining room becoming yet another catch-all for markers, stickers, school work, etc. etc. The kids are super excited about the garden this year so I may haul that thing out again for them to get involved. Selling the extra plants at the farmstand might just be the ticket. Last year the kids pulled in a whopping $51.3 golf balls! It was FUNtastic!!

Hey Jen in Texas..I envy your heat. I don’t envy your drought. But we sure have a hard time growing sun loving plants in Eastern Washington sometimes! Tomatoes are especially tricky. Some years are great and others, well, not so much!! Good luck.

I will definitely be planting those this year in my tiny raised garden in the city and I plan to peruse the Seed Savers catalog for a few more heirloom vegetables that will work well in Michigan climate.

I also enjoy collecting seeds- I have some wisteria seeds that I collected from my friend’s vine last year and I can’t wait to grow them! jaylyn morehouse says: I try to grow all things heirloom! You just can’t beat the flavors. In my experience, heirlooms seem to resist disease better than most other varieties. If we must intervene with pests, we use organic practices, and it’s usually just a matter of picking them off. Last year some of my favorite heirloom veggies were: Tall Telephone Garden Peas, Lacinato Kale, and of course the Brandywine Tomatoes.
We get our seed through Baker Creek Seed Company and Seeds From Italy.
This year, I have several kinds of heirloom beans that I can’t wait to try, including the Dragon Tongue Bush Bean and the Scarlet Runner Bean (both in Red and Sunset-pinkish color).

Eileen V Widman says: Oh how I would love and cherish one of these beauties! Last year I grew Rose Finn Apple potatoes and plan to plant them again this year. I also planted Brandywine and Cherokee Purple tomatoes. Golden Zuccinni squash as well as an attempt at Queensland blue. I grew Danvers Half long carrots and Dragon carrots and had great results. I tried Mammoth Red Rock Cabbage but had a bad infestation of cabbage moth. I grew Chioggia beets last year and want to try growing Bulls blood this year. I grew French breakfast raddish and Early Scarlet globe last year with great results so will be going for more of them. I love parsnips and have never grown them before so want to try growing them but do not see a source for organic parsnips in my Seed Savers Exchange seed catalogue.
I am planning on trying beans for drying this year, want to try True Red Cranberry beans and Provider Green beans for canning and pickling. The other things I am growing are several varieties of Garlic including a box garden containing already growing garlic that Mary Jane shared with me. anxious for it to be ready but excited to see how well it is doing so far.
